Although we wanted to cast someone who could specifically play some of the male parts in our play, we decided to see men and women audition as we wanted to have as open a mind as possible. We saw some really fantastic talent and were so thankful to everyone who came along to audition for us.
After some deliberation, we finally decided that we wanted the wonderful Katy Helps to come and join the Mary, Mary company. Katy has lots of experience playing multiple roles and really blew us away with the way she transformed into characters during her audition.
We’re so excited to start rehearsing with Katy next week!
Wahooo!!! Shout it from the rooftops and mark it in your diaries. Tickets have yet to go on sale but we will let you know as soon as they do. We will also be bringing you updates from the rehearsal room. To whet your appetite, read our blog from last year’s R&D on the show. The above publicity image was kindly created for us the wonderful Andy at SableIndustries.
Character seems key in this piece, and it was identified that in order to find the characters, we really needed to play with objects that would embody the characters. As well as the obvious main character of the backpack, what item would represent the owner, what would represent her post Hampstead cousins?
We also realised that in order to effectively play with all these object characters, we would need some extra hands. We realised we would need some additional puppetry performers to help us play and develop the piece.

So all-in-all a very productive meeting with lots to get to work on. We’re looking forward to getting up on our feet and playing Lost Property. Many thanks the Little Angel for supporting Theatre Mensch by providing the R&D space.
So we’ve been meeting up and working on individual research for Mary, Mary for quite some time. But 18th June 2015 can now be marked in the calendar as our first official rehearsal/devising session of Mary, Mary – hooray! Many thanks to Theatre Delicatessen for providing the space for us.
